Bar Al Hikman is one of Oman’s most remarkable coastal nature reserves, renowned for its vast wetlands, tidal lagoons, and extraordinary wildlife. Located along the Arabian Sea coastline in Al Wusta Governorate, this remote peninsula forms one of the most important migratory bird habitats in the Middle East.

The area consists of expansive mudflats, salt marshes, shallow lagoons, sandy beaches, and coastal islands that support an exceptional diversity of marine and bird life. Each year, thousands of migratory birds arrive from Europe, Asia, and Africa, making Bar Al Hikman a globally significant birdwatching destination.
The surrounding waters also support marine ecosystems rich in fish, crustaceans, and other wildlife, while the untouched coastline offers a sense of isolation rarely found elsewhere in Oman.

Its vast open landscapes, changing tides, and strong seasonal winds also create ideal conditions for kitesurfing, with seasonal kitesurfing camps offering immersive experiences for riders in this remote natural setting. The area is also popular for coastal camping experiences, where visitors can stay overnight beneath star-filled skies in complete natural solitude.

Whether observing flamingos across the lagoons, exploring remote coastal tracks, kitesurfing along wind-swept shores, or camping beneath star-filled skies beside the Arabian Sea, Bar Al Hikman offers an unforgettable experience in one of Oman’s most pristine natural environments.
