Jebel Akhdar, meaning "The Green Mountain," is one of Oman’s most celebrated mountain destinations. Rising high within the Hajar Mountain range, it is renowned for its cooler climate, terraced farms, traditional stone villages, and sweeping views across deep canyons and rugged peaks.
Unlike much of Oman’s arid landscape, Jebel Akhdar supports a unique agricultural environment thanks to its elevation and ancient aflaj irrigation systems. The mountain is famous for its rose gardens, pomegranate orchards, walnut trees, and seasonal fruit plantations that have sustained local communities for generations. During spring, the region’s rose harvest fills the mountain air with fragrance and supports the production of traditional Omani rose water.
Visitors are drawn to Jebel Akhdar for its spectacular scenery and outdoor experiences. Scenic viewpoints overlook dramatic valleys and cliffs, while walking trails connect historic villages, terraced fields, and mountain settlements that preserve a traditional way of life. The cooler temperatures throughout much of the year also make the region a popular escape from the heat of the lowlands.
Today, Jebel Akhdar is home to some of Oman’s most exclusive mountain resorts, combining luxury hospitality with extraordinary natural surroundings. Whether visiting for hiking, cultural exploration, relaxation, or to enjoy the mountain landscapes, Jebel Akhdar offers one of the country’s most rewarding and memorable experiences.
