Masirah Island is Oman’s largest island and one of the country’s most remote and unspoiled coastal destinations. Located off the eastern coast in the Arabian Sea, the island is known for its vast beaches, rugged landscapes, strong coastal winds, and peaceful atmosphere far from the mainland’s busy urban centres.
Masirah is a haven for nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, and travellers seeking a quieter side of Oman. The island’s long stretches of shoreline provide important nesting grounds for several species of sea turtles, while its surrounding waters attract dolphins, migratory birds, and diverse marine life. Its unique natural environment makes it one of Oman’s most important wildlife destinations.
The island is also internationally recognised for kitesurfing and wind-based water sports thanks to its consistent winds and open coastline. Beyond adventure activities, visitors can enjoy beach camping, coastal drives, fishing excursions, birdwatching, and opportunities to explore remote landscapes largely untouched by development.
Accessible by ferry from the mainland, Masirah offers a distinctive island experience where nature, wildlife, and coastal adventure take centre stage. For travellers looking to venture beyond Oman’s traditional tourist routes, the island provides a rewarding escape into one of the country's most secluded and authentic destinations.
