Nizwa is located in the interior of northern Oman, at the base of the Hajar Mountain range. It sits in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains and desert plains, giving it a distinct oasis-like environment

How To Reach
Nizwa is most commonly reached by road from Muscat via a direct highway route that passes through desert and mountain scenery. The drive takes around 1.5 to 2 hours and is straightforward and well signposted.
There is no airport in Nizwa, so travellers typically arrive via Muscat International Airport and continue by rental car, private transfer, or guided tour. Rental car is the most flexible option, especially for exploring nearby attractions.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Nizwa is between October and April, when cooler temperatures make it ideal for exploring the city and nearby mountains.
Visit Nizwa Souq on Friday very early morning for the famous Goat Market and traditional souq atmosphere.
Spring is the best season for rose blooms, fruit blossoms, and greener mountain terraces in nearby Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams, while summer brings date harvest season across the region.
During major Islamic holidays and Eid celebrations, Nizwa becomes especially vibrant with traditional markets, food, and cultural events.
