Rental Cars
The most convenient way to explore Oman, rental cars offer complete flexibility to travel at your own pace. They are ideal for visiting multiple destinations, making spontaneous stopovers, and discovering the country's diverse landscapes - from mountains and vast deserts to coastlines and historic towns. Oman is generally spread out, even within Muscat, visiting multiple locations may be more convenient and cost effective using a rental car. Oman’s major highways and roads are modern, well-maintained, and easy to navigate. A 4WD vehicle is required for certain mountain routes, desert regions, and remote attractions, so it is important to check road conditions and vehicle requirements before your journey.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing Apps
If you plan on being around a central location, or plan to spend most of your time at a resort, taxis are a practical option for getting around. Taxis are widely available in major cities like Muscat and Salalah but are limited outside the capital regions.
Make sure that you either negotiate a set fare beforehand or use the app to ensure that you know the cost of your trip.
Taxis can be found at airports, major hotels, shopping malls, and popular tourist attractions.
Ride-hailing apps, such as OTaxi, offer convenient booking and upfront pricing through your phone. Taxis and ride-hailing services are best suited for airport transfers, city sightseeing, shopping districts, restaurants, and short-distance travel within urban areas.

Chauffeur Services
Travel with the comfort of having your own chauffer and eliminate the need for planning your route or driving in unfamiliar roads. Chauffer services can be arranged for day trips, business travel, or multi-day journeys across Oman. Many services offer customizable itineraries and drivers familiar with popular tourist destinations.

Guided Tours and Excursions
If you are looking for an all-inclusive package, then a guided tour is your option. Tour operators will often include transportation, attraction visits, activity arrangements, accommodation and knowledgeable guides. They are particularly useful for exploring deserts, mountains, wadis, cultural sites, and remote regions where local knowledge enhances the experience. A guided tour is highly recommended for remote areas like Wahiba Desert or Bar Al Hikman. We would also recommend guided tours around areas like Nizwa for stories that you will only hear from locals!

The most popular domestic tourist routes include Muscat–Salalah, connecting visitors to Dhofar’s beaches, mountains, and Khareef season; Muscat–Khasab, providing quick access to the breathtaking fjords of Musandam; Muscat-Masirah, offering a convenient link to one of Oman’s premier destinations for kitesurfing, wildlife, and remote coastal experiences.
Main Airports
Muscat International Airport (MCT) – Oman’s primary aviation hub and gateway for most international and domestic connections.
Salalah Airport (SLL) – Main airport serving Dhofar Governorate.
Khasab Airport (KHS) – Gateway to the Musandam Peninsula.
Duqm Airport (DQM) – Serves the Al Wusta region and Duqm Special Economic Zone.
Sohar Airport (OHS) – Located on the Batinah Coast with limited passenger services.
Airlines Operating Domestic Routes
Oman Air – Oman’s national carrier, offering full-service domestic flights with baggage allowance included on most fares.

Flight Schedule
Flight frequencies vary by season and route, with Salalah generally served daily, while destinations such as Masirah and Duqm may have limited weekly services. You should check current schedules when planning your trip. -
Intercity Buses
A budget-friendly way to travel between major cities and towns. Modern coaches operate on routes connecting destinations such as Muscat, Nizwa, Sohar, Sur, and Salalah, offering comfortable seating and air conditioning. Intercity buses are a good option if you want a budget friendly way to get around cities in Oman.
The most popular routes include Muscat–Nizwa, linking the capital with Oman’s cultural heartland; Muscat–Sur, providing access to the eastern coastline and turtle reserves; Muscat–Sohar, connecting travelers to the Batinah Coast; and the long-distance Muscat–Salalah service, which offers an affordable alternative to domestic flights for reaching Dhofar.
Keep in mind that once you get to your destination, taxi services may be limited, so make sure you plan your route.
Most scheduled intercity services are operated by Mwasalat, Oman’s national public transport provider.
Advance booking is recommended for longer routes and during public holidays, while regular daily departures make bus travel a practical and economical way to explore Oman.

Ferry Services
A scenic alternative to road travel, connecting selected coastal destinations and islands. Ferry routes provide access to places such as Musandam and Masirah Island while offering beautiful views of Oman’s coastline.
Many ferry services also operate as vehicle ferry services, which allows you to take your vehicle to destinations that are otherwise time-consuming to access by road such as Shinas-Khasab, or destinations where that is the only option to reach with a vehicle, such as Shannah-Masirah.
The most popular tourist routes include Shinas–Khasab, providing access to the spectacular fjords and mountain landscapes of Musandam, and Shannah–Masirah Island, the primary route for visitors heading to Masirah’s beaches, wildlife, and watersports destinations.
Most ferry operations are managed by Mwasalat, Oman’s official ferry operator. Mwasalat operates modern vessels linking mainland Oman with Musandam and Masirah Island, offering a reliable and comfortable travel experience.
Ferry schedules can vary depending on weather and seasonal demand, so advance booking is recommended, particularly during holidays and peak tourism periods.
