Nizwa Souq is one of Oman’s most famous traditional markets, located next to the historic Nizwa Fort. For centuries, it has been a key trading hub for the interior regions of Oman, bringing together farmers, craftsmen, and traders from surrounding villages.
The souq is divided into sections selling everything from silver jewellery and handmade khanjars to spices, dates, pottery, and traditional textiles. Its atmosphere blends everyday commerce with deep cultural heritage, making it one of the best places in Oman to experience authentic local life.
On Fridays, the nearby livestock market adds even more energy, with traders and buyers gathering early in the morning for traditional auctions.
You can combine your souq experience with a tour through Harat Al Aqr, a beautiful walking network of pathways filled with beautiful restaurants, cafés and Omani businesses that are sure to provide you with a wonderful selection of souvenirs. Harat Al Aqr is only 5 minutes walk from the souq and is right by the Nizwa fort.
