Al Mirani Fort is one of the two iconic forts guarding Old Muscat’s harbour, alongside Al Jalali Fort. Built in the 16th century during the Portuguese era and later expanded by Omani rulers, it played a key defensive role in protecting the capital’s coastline and maritime routes.
In recent years, the fort has been restored and opened to the public as a cultural heritage site. Visitors can now explore the interior, including exhibition rooms and restored fortifications, while learning about its military and historical significance.
From the top levels, the fort offers some of the best panoramic views in Muscat, stretching across the sea, palace area, and surrounding cliffs.
