MORE INFORMATION
-
Muttrah Fort sits high on the rocky hills of the Muttrah district, strategically positioned above the historic harbor and the famous Muttrah Corniche. Its location was chosen for defense and surveillance, allowing it to control maritime activity and protect one of Oman’s most important trading areas.
The fort has origins linked to the Portuguese presence in the 16th century and was later expanded by Omani rulers to strengthen coastal defense systems. Today, it stands as a restored heritage site where visitors can explore its towers and walkways while enjoying sweeping views over the sea, mountains, and the old city.
The fort is one of the best viewpoints in Muscat, especially at sunset when the harbor and surrounding cliffs glow in warm light.
